Gallaudet is beautiful year-round – but in the summer? It’s something else.
With campus bursting in green and sunshine, it’s the perfect time to explore and take in some student art along the way. This year, three talented students turned the theme “Hope for the Future” into vibrant murals as part of our end-of-year tradition. You’ll find their work brightening up the walls of Hanson Plaza’s parking garage, each piece a bold reflection of dreams, identity, and what’s to come.
So if you're visiting this summer, snap a selfie, soak it in, and celebrate creativity in full bloom.

[Davina Mayor stands in front of their mural, signing to the camera. They have dark hair in styled pigtails. They wear glasses, a dark button-up over a t-shirt with a cartoon face, and jeans.]
Mayor: This is my art.
[Cut to the camera panning to the right over the mural. It has a variety of colorful designs on a blue background, including astronomical stars and flowers. The centerpiece of the mural is two pairs of hands holding up a globe, with a tricolor rainbow coming out of the top of the globe. At the top, bisected by the rainbow, is text: “Hope for the future”.]
[Cut to a shot of a paper guide for the mural. The camera pans to the left back to Davia in front of the full mural.]
Mayor: You can see the title, “Hope for the Future”. There are signing communities all over the world, but Gallaudet brings them together in one place to foster community. We are one community fighting for society and the future. Showing the world our community is united!
[The camera pans over another mural, with a dark blue background and orange text that says, “Hope to the Future”. Behind the text on the top are three hands showing the sign for “hope”. Behind the text on the bottom are three hands showing the sign for “future”.]
[Nathaniel Rusinowicz stands in front of their mural, signing to the camera. They have brown hair past their ears, a mustache and stubble. They wear a Gallaudet beanie and brown hoodie.]
Rusinowicz: The title of my work is “Hope for the Future”. It’s inspired by the movie Back to the Future. Instead of going back to the future, hope brings us forward into the future.
[The camera pans over another mural, with text over a pink background. The text is framed by black paint over the pink background. It reads, “With hope, the future is limitless.”]
[Zoe Abrams-Gay stands in front of their mural, signing to the camera. They have short brown hair. They wear earrings, a black zip-up hoodie over a black shirt, and gray leggings. They have a tattoo on their left wrist.]
Abrams-Gay: My mural spreads the idea of hope for the future. I always love seeing quotes on other murals or on Instagram. They inspire me every day. I thought, why not make my own quote for people to inspire others? That’s how I came up with the mural. It speaks to hope for the future. “With hope, the future is limitless” means that with hope, you can do anything!
