Talking about suicide isn’t easy. Talking about your own experience with suicide ideation, plans, or attempts can be even harder. Opening up and sharing a very personal and raw revelation takes courage. In recognition of September being National Suicide Awareness Month, Deaf Counseling Center is sharing Alexis’s story about her experience with suicide.

If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or if you are afraid you may hurt yourself, please tell someone close to you, see your doctor, or go to the ER, or call 988 or 911 for help. We recognize asking for help can be especially difficult for Deaf people, who often face communication barriers and additional trauma in hospital systems. This is something that our community continues to work to improve.
