Many people in the Deaf community were very frustrated during the first half of Super Bowl LX because almost all of the commercials had no closed captioning. The NAD made a post urging people who experienced missing or inaccurate captions to file a complaint directly with the FCC.
During the pregame ceremony, Fred Beam performed the ASL version of the National Anthem. He was shown for a bit on the main broadcast — there was no PIP screen for him. However, in the stadium’s big screen TV, he was in a PIP.
During the halftime, NBC provided a livestream of the performance interpreted in Puerto Rican Sign Language (LSPR), performed by Celimar Rivera Cosme and Julian Ortiz.
