In November 2025, Colombian Deaf influencer Freddy raised a serious concern: fewer signing athletes are visible in today’s Deaflympics. His concern is valid.
In this video, I respond in real time and clarify an important issue — the Deaf population is not dwindling, and language should not be sidelined in our own global institutions.
What if we reimagined Deaflympics as Signlympics — a language-centered international competition welcoming deaf athletes of all communication styles and qualified signing allies?
