This timeline shows how “three-god” ideas developed outside the Bible. Ancient Egypt and Babylon used triads of separate gods. Greek philosophers later introduced abstract ideas like “essence” and logos. After the apostles died, church councils in the Roman Empire used Greek philosophy to settle debates, resulting in the Trinity doctrine. The Bible itself teaches one God, Jehovah; Jesus as God’s created Son; and the holy spirit as God’s power—not a person.
