If Jesus is “God and man,” the ransom stops being an equal exchange—Jesus gave his life “as a ransom in exchange” (Matt. 20:28). The Bible says Jesus is “a man” and “a corresponding ransom” (1 Tim. 2:5-6), matching a perfect human life for a perfect human life (Adam ↔ Jesus) because “death came through a man” and salvation comes “through a man” (1 Cor. 15:21-22, 45; Rom. 5:18-19). So Jesus must be a real man, distinct from God—he said, “the Father is greater than I am” (John 14:28) and he was “sent” by Jehovah, not that he became Jehovah (John 17:3; John 6:38).
