Sabbath: Mercy, Not Rules

Jehovah gave the Sabbath to benefit people—rest, mercy, and refreshment—not to punish them. The Pharisees piled on extra man-made rules and used them to judge others. Jesus, as “Lord of the Sabbath,” had authority to correct their harsh interpretations and show what Jehovah really wanted: compassion, necessity, and doing good. And later, after Jesus’ death, Christians are no longer under the Mosaic Law covenant, so they aren’t judged by Sabbath-keeping at all (Romans 7:6; Colossians 2:16).
