He didn’t “insult”; he enacted violence, seizing the power to define, degrade, and erase. Insulting people-first language. For example, Special Olympics.

"Mental retardation" was introduced as a medical term in 1961 for people with intellectual disabilities. Ever since, the R-word has become an insult as an everyday language in society, even the Deaf community itself, too.
In 2010, President Obama signed "Rosa's Law" which changed "mental retardation" to "intellectual disability" in U.S. federal law.

Those Special Olympics athletes have a bigger heart than Wes's black heart. The moment his hand shaped the slur—he revealed himself as a violent aggressor hiding behind a hateful face. Strip the sign of its venom and what remains is the plain truth: Wes chose hate, and hate is violence. Deaf Grassroots (DGM) leader chose HATE. Not COOL!
