White individuals account for the largest number of SNAP recipients, representing about 37% of all participants. However, other groups, such as Black and Hispanic individuals, have a higher participation rate relative to their proportion in the overall population. For example, a recent report shows White individuals make up the largest percentage of participants, but Black individuals are a larger share of the poverty rate and disproportionately represented in SNAP participation relative to their population size. White: Approximately 37% of SNAP participants identify as White. African American: Approximately 26% of participants are African American. Hispanic: Approximately 16% of participants are Hispanic. Asian: Approximately 3% to 4% of participants are Asian. Native American: Approximately 1% to 2% of participants are Native American.
