President Trump announced last night that Israel and Hamas have agreed to a deal that includes an exchange of Israeli hostages with Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from deep inside Gaza, and for more humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

There are about 20 Israeli hostages that are still alive and they may be released on Monday or Tuesday. There are about 28 Israeli hostages who have died and their bodies are still in Gaza, and the deal calls for the return of their bodies to Israel.

The Israeli government plans to meet and sign off on an agreement and a ceasefire would go into effect 24 hours afterwards. The Israeli military would withdraw to an agreed-upon line in Gaza that would allow them to still control about 53% of the territory.

It is not yet determined who will rule Gaza in the future and how Hamas would disarm.

There were celebrations in both Gaza and Israel on the ceasefire.

President Trump thanked mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey for working with them to make the deal happen. He plans to travel to the Middle East this weekend to attend a signing ceremony.

Israel’s PM Netanyahu said Trump should get the Nobel Peace Prize.
