I created this video so that starlight has signing to go along with speaking—a way to read the dark sky full of stars, beginning with Capella, the Goat Star. It’s incredible when night falls and people use signing to reach beyond Earth, to grasp the difference between astrology and astronomy. I especially loved remembering how Deaf people in the dark would sign nose-to-nose, without turning on a lamp.

This video was inspired by a recent trip to the Adirondacks, where canoeing under the night sky sparked the idea. As you look up at the stars, we’re all studying together in our own ways. I hope this video inspires you, and thank you for watching.
