When signing "unfortunately," it actually combines two negative ideas in one concept. A common mistake is to fingerspell "UN" and then sign "sad"—which can look like you're saying "not sad." The more accurate way to sign "unfortunately" is either: Fingerspell "UN" followed by the sign for "fortunately" (which is the same as "lucky"), or Sign "NOT" and then "LUCKY". You can also simply sign "sadly," which is often used to express the same meaning as "unfortunately." Hope that helps!
