This report highlights the critical importance of preserving and supporting specialized K-12 deaf schools, along with higher education institutions like Gallaudet University and NTID. Drawing on preliminary data from the Western Hemisphere, we examine the current landscape of deaf education, noting limited standardization and data availability. While mainstream schools play a crucial role, the data suggests that deaf schools should ideally function as central hubs, with mainstream institutions serving as supporting nodes in a comprehensive educational network. We also observe interesting trends in school density, with India appearing to have the most deaf schools per square mileage and France leading in schools per capita among comparable nations. The message is clear: save our deaf schools, or risk losing invaluable educational and cultural anchors for the Deaf community.
