In our family, we often have to gently remind our daughter to sign, because she’s surrounded by spoken English nearly everywhere she goes. It’s easy to default to the dominant language, especially when 95% of the world around her is using it.
But we remind ourselves that she’s still learning how to navigate life in two languages—and that grace and consistency matter so much in that process.
