ASL translation: This is Virginia state Senate passed the federal Equal Rights Amendment(ERA) resolution to ratify that was long overdue expired 1982 ratification on Tuesday, Jan 8, 2019. 24-14 vote passed.

Seven Virginia Republicans joined all 19 Democrats' chambers in supporting the resolution sponsored by Sen Glen Sturtevant, R-Richmond.

The resolution now goes to the House of Delegates. Should it pass there, it would be sent to the national archivist.

That means Virginia will be the 38th state to ratify the ERA that would be added to the U.S. Constitution. The new amendment became law.
