NAD President Melissa gives a recap about NLTC and encourages people to join DGM's next national event on March 8, 2018.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION AND TRANSCRIPT: Melissa is standing outside with Los Angels, California in the background. A small white NAD logo appears on bottom right corner.

MELISSA: Hi, I'm Melissa. I'm in California for the Council de Manos conference! I have learned so much from the conference. This is one of the many national affiliate conferences that I attend, and I always look forward to sharing what I learned with the NAD Board. For my October update, I wanted to share about the NAD Leadership Training Conference (NLTC) that happened earlier this month in Oklahoma. 198 people were in attendance. Many great discussions were had about leadership, planning for the future, NAD priorities, and community concerns and issues. It is my hope that those who attended the NLTC will continue to share these important discussion topics back home, especially to develop priorities to propose at the next NAD conference. Priority proposals do not have to come only from national affiliates or state associations but also from individuals. Any member can submit a new priority proposal. My other update is about our work with Deaf Grassroots Movement (DGM). We have continued to stay in touch since I started my term. DGM is planning their next big march and rally on March 8, 2018 in Washington, D.C. I encourage everyone to join the march to recognize different important issues in our community, specifically employment, equal access, and education. The federal government must know our issues and that can only happen when we inform these legislators about these issues. The march is open to anyone to join, and is not limited to just DGM chapters and state associations. DGM will release more information about that event soon. Thank you.
