Hello everyone!

This is Chris Haulmark, running for US House of Representatives in Kansas’s Third Congressional District.

Today, we will talk about last night’s event, hosted by Alliance for a Healthy Kansas and Indivisible Kansas City.

Impressively, both organizations held a townhall event, called Expand KanCare.

I attended and, wow, full access was provided. An American Sign Language Interpreting Team was set up, giving accessible communications in full interaction with all.

I listened and learned from many people about things.

One point is that KanCare is a state Medicaid progam, operated here in Kansas.

It’s just under a different name.

During the discussion, there was much information shared about…hmm... how a certain segment of low-income Kansans qualified for KanCare, while another segment of Kansans who do not earn enough income, can purchase their own medical insurance.

Yet, in the middle range, the Kansans are stuck- unable to obtain Medicaid benefits under KanCare program.

Or cannot afford to purchase their own medical insurance. Nasty gap, eh?

So we see the center population being left out of healthcare insurance coverage.

So the Alliance for a Healthy Kansas and Indivisible Kansas City is advocating for expanding Medicaid to cover those in this middle gap, including them under KanCare.

I met with several people, including some state legislators, some parents or families and friends of some disabled or low-income Kansans.

We all discussed, understood, and learned from each other’s unique circumstances.

I did ask one critically important question: “What should We, the Citizens of Kansas, do?”

Yes, that’s right.

Many answers were provided, such as: contacting your state legislator and their people- yes, you have to know who they are, and you have to know how to communicate with them, emphasizing the issues on them, especially on what to vote for and what you believe they should support, particularly by pulling your friends and family into the discussion to urge the state legislators to act on the healthcare issues.

Yeah, that’s how it works.

I, Chris Haulmark, plan to contact MY Kansas state representative and my Kansas state senator, urging them to expand KanCare to cover those who are unable to obtain healthcare insurance.

Let’s contact our Kansas State legislators together!
