Hello everyone!

This is Chris Haulmark, running for US House of Representatives in Kansas’s Third Congressional District.

*deep breath* Whew! What a day!

Today’s vlog shares what happened yesterday afternoon.

I went to Johnson County NAACP.

NAACP is: National Association for Advancement of Colored People.

The local chapter invited me to come because I provided questions for the different local candidates who are running for office this upcoming November next month.

Okay...

The forum involved a panel of candidates taking turns answering each question.

As it happened, one of the questions I asked was about Deaf inclusivity.

The second question asked was: “Would the candidate be willing to promote for an ordinance to add a mandate that captions MUST be included for public television events across their districts.

Thirdly, how would the candidate improve inclusion of Deaf community members’ communication and access needs for their political events.

I was astonished at some of the candidates’ many unsatisfactory answers.

There were only two that I liked among the many comments: One was related to the candidate's awareness of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The second candidate did state: “We must ask the Deaf leadership, actually mentioning me- Chris Haulmark,
to find out what the Deaf community wanted.”

I was impressed with those two answers, but the other responses--

Whoo! How unsatisfactory!

I feel like: “Wow, you candidates do not really COMPREHEND what the Deaf community truly does need, and also expect from our- how shall we say it- politically elected officials.

*thinking*

So, I foresee a lot of hard work that must be done to educate the candidates and including public awareness about Deaf community needs.

And, also, related with disability needs, too.

Got that?

*grinning* We can do it!
