Hello!

This is Chris Haulmark, running for US House of Representatives in Kansas’s Third Congressional District.

Today, we will discuss what’s going on with incidences of gun violence in America.

There are three shooting incidents to consider:
1.) Austin's Bar & Grill, here in Olathe last February
2.) Lawrence, Kansas that occurred last Sunday morning and
3.) the mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas last Sunday evening.

Okay…

Whew…!

It’s such a tragedy any time a shooting happens, no matter how small or how big the incident is.

No one DESERVES to get shot and killed, unless only for in defense of oneself- that’s all.

*thinking*

Okay, consider this… just so you know I, Chris Haulmark, have always been pro-gun.
Yet, I have been fortunate to have parents who encouraged and supported hunting, fishing, and competitive shooting sports.

Okay…

as I reflect, I recall one very critical principle my dad taught me, but first, let’s put that aside for now…

Let’s discuss the incidents.

Here, in Austin's Bar & Grill, three people were shot, two of whom were Indian immigrants.

The third was a local who came to their defense against someone who’d brought a gun to the bar in order to execute the Indians as a hate crime.

Got that?

That’s the ripple effect of today’s political propaganda.

That’s such a terrible incident!

The terrorist obtained a gun, used it against two innocent people of color, then turned it onto the local!

Now, last Sunday morning, in Lawrence, Kansas, a fistfight broke out, escalating to shooting two random victims.

Wow…

This terrorist was able to possess a gun.

With the incident in Las Vegas, that gunman in Las Vegas was a crazy madman!

He harvested an insane number of firearms!

Can you believe it?

All cached in his hotel room, and still had more at home!

He obviously pre-planned the whole thing!

*shaking head in disbelief*

Such meticulous preparation and planning!

Wow…

And the gunman premeditatedly tried to massacre as many people as possible!

That’s unbelievably senseless!

TRULY HORRIBLE!

And look at America!

We’re bickering over a false dichotomy….gun control versus gun rights?

Whew! How senseless!

Ohh...Kay!

My proposal to you, straight from the heart and inclusive of my personal background as well, is..just as my dad taught me- Be Responsible With Guns!

Looking at those three incidents, how did the shooting get triggered?

Were the gunmen being responsible with their weapons?

Nooo, not at all...

Nope!

There are so many incidences of gun violence happening in America today!

I recall the Sandy Hook massacre at its elementary school, where innocent children and teachers were gunned down back in 2012.

That was HORRIBLE too!!

Just so AWFUL!

I was terrified for my two elementary-school age kids!

But that Sandy Hook gunman stole these guns after executing his own mother.

Unbelievable…

What sort of gun control laws can prevent all these senseless incidences of gun violence happening in America?

*shaking head in disbelief*

None, really…

Come to think of it, that’s my perspective that if someone wanted to kill another human being with a gun, that person will figure out how to get that gun.

And no gun control law would stop that.

*shaking head in disbelief*

I’m beginning to understand more deeply about how our society has come to be today, with endless disputing and increasing polarization, rigidly opposing each other as we drift ever further apart.

On one hand, the gun control advocates allege that America needs greater gun control, mental illness treatment, and so much more societal fixes.

And trying to ignore the Second Amendment that is considered necessary to prevent governmental tyranny.

On the other hand, the gun rights advocates try to deflect the blame by saying: “Don’t politicize the victim’s tragedies or what could happen!”

And at the same time…hmm…*shaking head*

It’s so senseless- what a HUGE mess in America!

And I constantly wonder…how do we resolve this problem, and reduce the number of incidences of gun violence that intentionally murder innocent Americans?
