Hello!
This is Chris Haulmark, running for US House of Representatives
in Kansas’s Third Congressional District.
For today’s vlog, we want to share a message to all those who help bridge communication between we- the Deaf people, and English speakers.
Let's think about that a bit...
There is a plan for many people to walk back and forth on this new campaign bridge.
Who will be this “bridge†for us, the Deaf and the English speakers?
You, the Sign Language Interpreters.
Yeah, that’s it! That means YOU!
Got that?
Ah, yes, including American Sign Language students, too, wouldn’t you say?
Not to mention those who learned American Sign Language as a foreign language as a school requirement, too.
Oh, and don’t forget the parents who have acquired American Sign Language for their Deaf children, too.
Come to think of it, that’s a humongous bridge!
Imagine that- so MANY, MANY are crossing back and forth…
Wow…
What does the bridge look like?
Hmm...come to think of it…
it really depends on the American Sign Language interpreter's language skills…
Some are extremely skilled in American Sign Language, being a bridge that is STRONG, beautiful, with a gorgeous view that takes our breath away
Those whom aren’t so skilled in American Sign Language, not yet a professional qualified interpreter or don’t yet sign ASL fluently, their bridge is shaky, swinging in the air, as they tread carefully with baby steps, hoping it will not collapse on those Deaf and English speakers crossing.
What an challenge! Whew! *grinning*
Y’see... the STRONG bridge with such beautiful interpreting- supporting MILLIONS of those crossing, is very IMPORTANT for our Congressional campaign.
That means YOU, the American Sign Language interpreters and ASL students- truly do understand that critical need.
That means I need MONEY, no question!
So I humbly ask for your participation in fundraising campaign money- Help the campaign show off OUR interpreting bridge to the world!
Your opportunities to interpret will increase, and bring more EXPOSURE for us- Chris Haulmark’s Congressional campaign as well as when we go work in Congress, too.
Awareness of our language will explode!
The many Deaf people who use American Sign Language will need to cross that interpreting bridge more often as will those who were unaware or don’t even recognize Deaf Culture, not even knowing American Sign Language exists!
Imagine that!
Hey, I need your bridge!
You, the American Sign Language interpreters, will become more highly regarded, in even greater demand!
Yes indeed!
