Summary:

Problematic statues aren't a "hearing problem." Our ASL Deaf institutions have statues with dark repercussions in our community. This video spotlights the Gallaudet-Cogswell statue that occupies a prominent place of honor at Gallaudet University. Why do we accept its presence? What are the other statues that need to be moved?

We need to take a serious look at the art that we have become accustomed to in our institutions and ask whether or not they represent the school. The physical move accompanies change in the institutional beliefs that better reflect the communities represented.

NOTE: See Richard Clark Eckert's essay on the Bear Hunt at California School for the Deaf!
