After the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida that left 49 people dead and over 50 injured, investigators were working hard to discover more information regarding the shooter's motive. President Obama stated that legally purchased firearms were used for the attack, and that this was an incident of “homegrown terrorism.”

Sunday night on June 12, bodies were taken out of Pulse, the gay nightclub that was the scene of this horrific event.

While the shooter legally purchased the guns used in the shooting, officials found a Sig Sauer AR-15 rifle, a Glock 9mm semiautomatic pistol, and a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver. The Smith & Wesson revolver was found in the gunman’s car, and was not used in the shooting.

The gunman was a security guard for a gated community and went through background checks and psychological evaluations. According to officials, the gunman called the police during the shooting and pledged his loyalty to ISIS.

While the gunman entered the club around 2 a.m., he held hostages in the bathroom for three hours after he shot people in the main area of the club. Chief John Mina with the Orlando Police Department confirmed that the gunman’s statement that he had accomplices and explosives was false.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
