April 2016 Was The Hottest On Record

This past April made the record for the hottest month yet. The record even beat last year’s record by a huge margin. According to data released from NASA, this is the 7th year in a row that April had the highest record. Gavin Schmidt, the director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, said there is over a 99% chance that this year will be the hottest year recorded and that it will most likely exceed the previous yearly record. The reason for these soaring temperatures is that the country is currently in the middle of a powerful El Nino, which causes the Pacific Ocean to become warmer. The El Nino has caused the already soaring temperatures to worsen. The drastically rising temperatures have caused scientists to declare a “climate emergency” and they were having doubts that the Paris agreement that 175 countries signed will work. The Paris agreement was made to keep rising temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius. According to CNN’s John Sutter, if the temperatures get higher than 2 degrees Celsius, the outcome would not be good.
