Regarding #AGBelllies. Why am I posting so many posts regarding this issue? Meredith Sugar is a hearing person who is unqualified to make a statement for the Deaf world. She is not deaf or hard of hearing. She is hearing. She also is spreading lies to people that ASL interferes with a deaf child's ability to develop listening and speaking English. It is totally the opposite. ASL helps. Research has shown that already. This is an outdated perspective of hers and AG Bell Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This is Audism in its purest form. She is destroying a Deaf child's right to language and human rights. Parents of the deaf children already suffer from not knowing what to do when they receive the news that their child is deaf.

Cochlear implants are still devices to help a child "hear" like hearing aids. However they do not cure deafness nor do they make a child hearing. Taking them off still makes them deaf no matter how they try to avoid that fact. What about their access to language while waiting for the right age, CI surgery to heal, and for the device to work? The child will not understand the parents speech until intense training is ongoing. Why wait. Why rob them of critical thinking skills? Why make them struggle with language? Language acquisition occurs from birth to age 3, after that the window starts to slowly close. This does not help a deaf child at all by denying them access to language while waiting for the CI to work.

They say deaf children read and write up to 3rd or 4th grade or even lower than that. Ever wonder why? Language deprivation. That's mostly the cause of that.

Since 1880 Alexander Graham Bell has continued to spread Eugenics against the deaf marrying each other and his attempts to destroy Sign Language, the very language he also could speak because he is a CODA. (His mother was deaf and yes wife was deaf too but did not sign) Research has proved again and again that ASL or any signed language helps a deaf child thrive, develop language in all areas including reading and writing English which is already a different language, develop critical thinking (even old AG Bell himself said it is true), and achieve the impossible.

Hearing parents want their hearing babies to learn sign… but AGBell Association of the Deaf/HoH doesn’t want deaf babies to sign? Isn’t that the biggest irony of all time. Research has shown that bilingualism helps a child in academic areas. Most hearing people want to learn more than one language. Is Meredith saying that makes a hearing person fall behind by learning more than one language? Think about it. Isn't it time to stop them from spreading those lies? Join us in this fight to stop ongoing lies.
