"The Triad oft h e Great Gods" Many centuries before the time of Christ, therewere triads, or trinities, of gods in ancient Babylonia and Assyria. The French "Larousse EncyclopediaofMythology" notes one such triad in that Mesopotamian area: "The universe was divided into three regions each of which became the domain ofa god. Anu's share was the sky. The earth was g i v e n t o E n l i l . E a b e c a m e t h er u l e ro f the waters.
