SEE is a signing system born out of wedlock (colloquially: bastardization) to both the English language and to American Sign Language. SEE heavily employs the use of linguistic-reductionism in an attempt to break language down into 'components', yet succeeds only at offering its users 'fragments' of a broken-down system. The emergent properties of both ASL and English as vessels for self expression will always be greater than the sum of its individual parts. SEE, in its naivety, overplays rote structure and underplays real significance. Its repetitive highlighting of lower-level linguistic components, bleeds through cognitive-pages and leaves stains on the characteristics for would-be, higher-level linguistic features. SEE, in and of itself, cannot mentally-metabolize thoughts -- it's like a virus -- neither living nor non-living; linguistic stalemate. ASL is the vaccination ... let's get to inoculating our children at an early age. There are so many bright educators out there with salient syringes filled with linguistic immunizations -- we need to push systematic changes in policy in order to allow them to do their thing. Each one of us is a potential catalyst. And that's all I really wanted to say right now.
