CHRIS: Hello! This video is to respond regarding the Deaf Protest event that will happen during September 5-6, 2015. We are aware this event is about employment for deaf and hard of hearing people. It is our understanding that the people who organized this march have secured a permit and we have no further information about this march. However, I want to share with you that the NAD supports freedom of speech. To give you a brief backgroundâ€¦ The NAD has advocated with the U.S. Government on many projects in an effort to improve employment for deaf and hard of hearing people. We have met with the White House, the Department of Labor, the Vocational Rehabilitation division (that used to be under the Department of Education but now is under the Department of Labor), the Office of Personnel Management, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and many others. We have discussed the importance of improving employment for deaf and hard of hearing people. We understand why the march is happening. The NAD shares the same concerns. Employment for deaf and hard of hearing people is still terrible, and the NAD continues to find ways to promote best practices and improved policies that will lead to higher employment rates for our community. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution -- we are committed to working hard on changing this unacceptable situation. This is precisely why we are in the middle of developing a resourceful website as a response to this important issue. Yes, there will be NAD representatives at the march because we support the need to improve employment for deaf and hard of hearing people. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
