Melissa brings your attention to the re-authorization of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Act and invites you to the next NAD Leadership and Training Conference this October in Oklahoma City. For the first time ever at NLTC, we will have a Racial Justice pre-conference training session and regional mini-conferences!

VIDEO DESCRIPTION AND TRANSCRIPT: Melissa stands outside facing the camera. A small white NAD logo appears on bottom right corner.

MELISSA: Hi, I'm Melissa. I have an important update to share regarding the re-authorization of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Act. This re-authorization process happens every five years. Congress has made changes to this law based on input from various communities except the deaf and hard of hearing community. We must share our input! Re-authorization bills have been submitted in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. I encourage you to watch the latest video that Tawny Holmes, NAD Education Policy Counsel, did two weeks ago. Tawny specifically explains the three amendments that we ask for in both bills that are under review by the Senate and the House. Tawny also shares a template letter for you to use when contacting your Senator and Representative. Your letter should include your personal story of your experience or someone else you know who has experienced the EHDI process. You can send a letter, make an appointment to meet your Senator and Representative, or call them -- there are different ways to share your concerns with the latest re-authorization bills. Please do this now because Congress is looking at these bills and may pass them soon. Secondly, I'd like to share an update about the NAD Leadership and Training Conference (NLTC). NLTC will happen this fall, October 5-7 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I'm excited to let you know about a first-ever pre-conference training, "Racial Justice," that will happen on Thursday afternoon, before NLTC begins. Then Friday and Saturday will consist of many different workshops, you can explore the NLTC website to find out what topics will be discussed and who will lead these workshops. There will also be regional mini-conferences on Friday and Saturday for attendees from each region to share their issues and concerns as well as some preliminary discussions for the upcoming Council of Representatives (COR) that will happen in 2018. The COR discussions will cover issues such as the COR process, how to write a priority, how to submit a motion, and more. We look forward to seeing you at NLTC! Thank you.
