SEEKING FOUR ACTORS FOR THE FOLLOWING ROLES FOR

THE TWO ESSENCES SITCOM PILOT. (We're shooting a couple pilot scenes next month in NYC for two days. NOTE: This is not the full episode. (PREFER TO WORK WITH EXPERIENCED

ACTORS, ALTHOUGH OPEN TO NON EXPERIENCE.

Actors will read the sides and prepare up to 2 minutes funny monologue from any movie or create their own from any situation. (Submit your audition reel online or via email along with your resume/headshot. It must be professional. (NO MODELING PICTURES ACCEPTED.)

CHARACTERS DESCRIPTION

1) ESSENCE CHAMBERLAIN-DUBOIS
(Age 35-40) African-American | Female | Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing – Speaking Role/Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
Essence is an attractive, free spirited snappy, 38 year-old woman who is a self-taught freelance Day Trader and part-time housewife working hard to balance her family, career and creative projects. She loves to interfere with her 20 year old, hard of hearing daughter, Zoë Essence’s life. This is a mother who is often emulating her daughter’s life.

2) RANFORD DUBOIS (Age 40-45) Hispanic/White Male
Hearing/CODA – Must be fluent in ASL
Ranford, age 40, is Essence’s white workaholic successful lawyer and husband. He is good-looking, charming, and traditional. He is a co-owner of a law firm. He is hearing. His parents are both deaf. Ranford is a Child of Deaf Adult (CODA). Sometimes his parents visit the family.

3) ZOE ESSENCE DUBOIS (Age 18-28) African-American/Biracial
Female Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing – Speaking Role/Fluent in ASL
20 years old Zoë Essence is trying to find her place assimilating in the hearing world. She is the oldest daughter. She is hard of hearing. She’s fashion savvy, materialistic and vain. She’s also fiercely independent and stubborn. She’s the president of Black Deaf Rock, a social issues and meeting club at her university.

4) SEPTIMUS APPLETON (Age 22-28) African-American Male Deaf/Fluent Septimus, 22 years old, is Zoë Essence’s boyfriend. He sometimes goes by the nickname “Apple or App” because some of his deaf friends have a hard time pronouncing his name and he also loves Apple products. He is tech-savvy. He’s a smooth-talking wannabe entrepreneur. He’s ambitious and makes money fixing people’s computers and mobile devices.

5) NOEL FAITH (Role taken by Sheena Lyles, but will need a backup.)
Noel is a soft stud lesbian who is the girlfriend of Hikma. She’s 25. She has an entertaining personality who makes everyone laugh. She’s also a comedian. She does stand up comedy shows at her school. Apple is her homeboy.

SYNOPSIS
The Two Essences” television pilot revolves around a mother and daughter’s relationship. The mother of the family, Essence Chamberlain-Dubois, is a spirited, black, 38 years old, married to a white lawyer. Essences, a fierce woman is a day trader by day and mother of three by night. Her family navigates the added complexity of being deaf and hearing in addition to life’s built in stressors. Essence decides to go back to her alma mater to complete a business degree. Her daughter, Zoë Essence is also attending that same college. Zoë is a 20 year-old, hard-of-hearing, self-centered, young woman is horrified by the thought of going to the same school with her mother.
