KAT: Hi! I'm Kat Brockway and I'm the NAD Deaf Culture and History Section Chair. I'm excited to share with you about the International Week of the Deaf celebration this week in partnership with the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD). First, some background. The celebration first started in 1958 as International Day of the Deaf. Today, that format has evolved to a week long celebration. Another fun fact about this celebration -- Colorado was the first U.S. state started Deaf Awareness Week (DAW). Jerome Moers of Colorado was behind that effort. Even the Governor of Colorado declared this celebration official! Thanks to Jerome Moers, a logo was also created to recognize this important celebration. Please share and spread the word about this week's celebration of International Week of the Deaf! Thank you.
